Formed in the Fall of 2024 in Columbia, South Carolina, by lead singer Brooks Torbett and his guitarist roommate, Brice Dickinson, The Smoaks came together the way most real bands do: proximity, shared taste, and the instinct to turn a hangout into a powerful live set. Today, they tour as a 5-piece alternative rock band, now including drummer Caleb Greer, guitarist Ryan Rhodes, and bassist Vincent Dia. 

The Smoaks' sound lives in that sweet spot where modern, indie melody meets the grit of 90s grunge and alternative rock. Guitars pushed forward, tempos built for movement, and songs that don't feel designated for the internet so much as built for a room. The through-line isn't studio polish; it's performance. This is a band that understands the currency of a live show: the quick turn from curiosity to crowd buy-in, and the way a chorus can feel louder when the room already knows it.

Having shared the stage with large regional acts such as Congress the Band, The Bends, and The Gringos, The Smoaks are no strangers to a big show. They thrive off a large and lively audience. 

The Smoaks have most recently had the opportunity to play the inside stage at the infamous Windjammer in Isle of Palms, South Carolina, and plan to return on May 2nd and June 27th of 2026. In addition, they have also played the St. Pat's in Five Points festival, drawing in a large hometown crowd, and have even played a SOLD OUT opening set at The Senate Columbia with Congress the Band and The Gringos.

With a strong background in live performance under their belt, The Smoaks have finally brought their raw energy to the studio, releasing singles “Laces," “Caroline,” and “Anaheim” in early 2026, with plans to release a debut ALBUM by the Fall of 2026, of which they have already started recording.
